My mentor, Master Auseklis Ozols, studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts influenced by the traditions of Thomas Eakins. In 1978 Ozols founded and directed the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. He trained me there 1993-95. In 2009, I founded my drawing Atelier, BlueEaselClub.com, in Uptown New Orleans to pass on the tradition of drawing from life in the Classical Realist Tradition. We focus on Portrait and Figure in charcoal or pastel, like this example, which was a class demo. I draw along with my class to foster the practice of live demo work rather than only lecture. Life Drawing is thriving in New Orleans with Blue Easel Club classes and workshops as well as many other life studios.
