In 1975 I worked as an Art Therapist for Temple University, Woodhaven Center in Philadelphia, PA. The figure painting is of one of my clients. The environment is left empty and grey since she had very little response to anything. I would like to get back to the figure but still life and sculpture are currently my interest.

My love of still life comes from my love of object shape and object form. The set ups I work from are arranged from objects, that create beautiful relationships, compositions and light, that I find exciting to see and paint. How the shapes and forms play in space, how light moves around and across the forms, shapes of the shadows, finding abstract shapes in the distortions of light through glass, all intrigue me. I am always searching for interesting subject matter. I create set ups of simple objects that with relationships of light, shape, form, color and space present something special. A bit of magic that I want to capture in paint, hopefully making the ordinary extraordinary.

This fabric drawing, suggesting a flower or should I say this flower drawing suggesting fabric, was drawn in 1985. I was interested in drawing objects and changing their structural material. My current still life paintings were inspired by classes that I taught and relate to my past representational work created on a commission basis. In my classroom I used still life to present explorations of various fundamentals in the visual arts to my students. I became interested in the still life genre and wanted to create finished works outside of the classroom. These later works show more depth, a better understanding of color and a compositional strength.
