I began painting in earnest in 2007. This first piece, "Contemplation" was inspired by a trip to Costa Rica. The composition of the offset triangle and the mixed-shaped and sized leaves all highlight the mischievous white-faced capuchin monkey. My early style was less refined, but I still captured this little guy's personality. As a veterinarian, I find behavior and anatomy very important. The eyes can follow you, so watch out!

I picked "Dust" as my current piece pairing. The elephant's personality comes through again, but it is heightened in this piece. My technical abilities and understanding of light and texture are demonstrated in the dramatic fall of the lit dust pouring down the side of the face. This particular elephant only had one tusk, a feature that catches the attention and brings out the individuality and the variety in nature.
