Biography:
Tea Laroux (b. 1997, Natchitoches, Louisiana) is a fine artist whose practice centers on the sculptural construction of light and the formal principles of the Tenebrist and Pictorialist tradition. Eschewing the purely documentary, Laroux’s work treats the image as a constructed icon—an allegorical metamorphosis built through a rigorous, interdisciplinary workflow.
His practice is anchored in the belief that light possesses physical weight. By utilizing the precision of high-resolution medium-format sensors and complex Photoshop compositing, traditional medium-format film processing, and large-format paper negatives and chemical reversals, Laroux bridges the gap between historical lineage and contemporary storytelling. This slow approach to image-making explores the intersections of history, memory, and the sublime, emphasizing the craft of the analog and the digital as a site of mastery.
